As quiet as this blog Everyday Asia’s been lately, my other blog Whisky Lady has been quintuply busy!
November brought incredible ‘novelty’ with a grand total of five (yup! That’s 1, 2, 3, 4.. 5!!) whisky sampling occasions exploring a wide range from the affordable and accessible to the impossibly rare with insane prices!
It was such a busy whisky tasting month that most reviews started in the status of *Notes forthcoming!

Hibiki Harmony, Aultmore 18, Glenburgie
Our regular monthly tasting session brought three very different whiskies:
- Hibiki Harmony NAS 43% – Latest Suntory response to the craze for Japanese whisky!
- Aultmore 18 year 46% – Interesting… sense we hadn’t tried before
- Glenburgie 15 year 43% – Gordon & MacPhail do it again!

Glenfarclas 105, Chichibu 2009, A’bunadh
Our Whisky Ladies proved their mettle with two sessions….
- 1st session was a Cask strength Diwali special ably conquering:
- Glenfarclas 105 NAS 60% – Straight forward no-nonsense sherry
- Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu French Oak Cask 2009 63% – Effervescent, flirty with a deceptive kick
- Abelour A’bunadh Batch 35 60.3% – Sherry bomb bringing Christmas to Mumbai early!*
- 2nd session was a world tour with:
- Canada’s Forty Creek Confederation Oak Reserve – Some Canadian pride…
- Japan’s Nikka All Malt – Quite the contradictory whisky!
- Scotland’s Oban 14 year – A familiar friend
- Special treat from BC, Canada – Sheringham‘s William’s White 2015 – double distilled grain*

Auchentoshan, Port Ellen, Lagavulin 16
Two remarkable rare malt evenings…
- 1st night shared:
- Glendronach 39, 40, 41 & 42 year PX casks from 1971/1972 – glorious, gorgeous sherry grand dames
- Karuizawa 1973/2013 Cask No 1607 67.7% – I’m still pinching myself!
- 2nd night explored rare bottles from the 1980s:
- Auchentoshan ‘Pure Malt’ 40% – A beautiful breakfast dram
- Port Ellen 26 year 50% – What a treat!!
- Lagavulin 16 ‘White Horse’ 43% – A classic!

Little Mill, BenRiach, Lochside, Laphroaig
Inspired by sampling so many remarkable rare malts and prompted by an upcoming trip to Singapore, I finally brushed off notes from a June evening at The Auld Alliance:
I also wandered down memory lane with:
- A re-visit of our Glenfarclas Mumbai special evening from a few years ago
- Ardbeg Corryvreckan 57.1% – For those days when only a peaty whisky will do!
- Glen Garioch 1797 Founders Reserve 48% – Highland fling with the past…
- Jura Superstition 43% – Brash young affordable dram
And had some fun with posts like:
- Whisky palate cleansers or pleasers – debating the pros and cons of sticking purely to whisky alone vs pairing with nibbles
- Jim Murray grabbing global whisky headlines – Yes I’m a proud Manitoban but… Crown Royal?
Until next month – Slainthe!

A very busy whisky November!
Just for interest… what’s the percentage of views that your Whisky blog gets from Japan…?
Allow me to start with sharing – I HATE the ‘new’ blog stats! Now that I have that off my chest, quick run of the top 10 countries Japan does make the cut at only 2%! Most views are from India, US, UK & Canada. Gee.. I should write a blog post about it! 🙂
Ah, interesting… the Japanese are meant to be obsessed with Whisky, but I guess they’d be searching for it in Japanese rather than English. P.S. Bloody WP. Their endeavour seems to be fixing what ain’t broken. They should make it their official motto…
There are some FAB whisky sites in Japanese that I simply WISH that I could comprehend. 🙂
Lost in translation… remember the Whisky ad theme in that film??
Indeed! Gotta admit, this is the 1st time I even looked at the stats page for Whisky Lady and went – yuck! WP has indeed endeavoured to break what was already fixed! 🙂
