Whisky Lady – An AWESOME August!

As slow as July was, August was the opposite for this Whisky Lady!

Because… drum roll… Mumbai be warned! We launched a Whisky Ladies gathering to have some dangerously fun times enjoying our favourite whiskies!

Whisky Lady – July Journeys

Whisky wise, July was a slow month for this Whisky Lady!

Let’s just say I know better than to waste quality whisky on a stuffed nose / dulled taste buds or attempt to write something coherent when all I want to do is go back to bed and nurse my miserable cold.

So instead of whining about what wasn’t accomplished, decided to focus on posts to come thanks to July developments!

Whisky Lady – May merriment

Welcome to Whisky Ladys 5th instalment summarising May’s whisky tasting adventures. Finally after a two month hiatus, our merry malt tasting group had our ‘proper’ session. We sampled blind whiskies from three countries:

  • USA (NY) – Hudson Single Malt NAS 46% – Something ‘different’ in a small barrel, hand crafting, unusual 375 ml bottle… doesn’t mean the whisky is any good. Just skip it!
  • Scotland (Highland) – Deanston Virgin Oak NAS 46.3%Decent delicate and slightly dull dram. Perhaps a refreshing spring cocktail made with a light hand and subtle flavours
  • Ireland – Teeling Single Malt NAS 46%Trust the Irish to create a sociable whisky! A complete treat – the kind of whisky you to pull out and enjoy with friends

In addition to our monthly sessions, I held a most enjoyable tasting with another whisky lady where we tried:

Auchentoshan quartet (Whisky Lady)

HITS – Unlike most months where it is tough to chose a ‘favourite’, the Irish Wishky Teeling is the only one I would consider stocking in my whisky cabinet for sociable evenings.

MISS – Also unlike most months, there was a clear ‘warning’ too – I still shudder at the Hudson. Don’t… I beg you just don’t…

Another highlight was Whisky Lady invaded Man’s World May edition with an interview with Dr Bill Lumsden.

In honour of Ardbeg’s 200 year, I also published further extracts fro the Bill Lumsden interview focused on Ardbeg.

June should bring some interesting tasting adventures as I will be traveling to Singapore, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Toronto, Canada then carry on to London in July. Let’s see what mischief and merriment can be had! Slainthe!

Whisky Lady – April adventures

Welcome to Whisky Ladys 4th instalment summarising the April’s whisky tasting adventures.

While our formal tasting session was cancelled, the month had two highlights:

  • Whisky Lady invades Man’s World with a Glenmorangie event and interview
  • Tasting take two revisiting Japanese and Indian whiskies from previous tasting sessions

Whisky Lady in a Man’s World

Thanks to an accidental rescue, Whisky Lady now has a regular whisky feature in Man’s World magazine. The 1st assignment took me to Delhi to interview Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Distilling, Whisky Creation and Whisky Stock for The Glenmorangie Company. (more…)

Rescue of a damsel in distress with an interesting offer!

A funny thing happened recently…

I had a meeting just across the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and my partner ever so kindly said “Just take the Merc and driver!”

How lovely… until after my meeting I hopped in the car and it did NOT start. Thirty minutes later it was quite clear nothing we did would bring a positive result.

My partner suggested I catch a cab home while he sorted out coordinating with mechanics, towing guys and driver on the phone. After all, we had a book launch to attend and there wasn’t anything I could do to help with the poor chariot.

Which is how I came to be standing sweating by the side of the road. Trying to catch a cab in rush hour. On a Friday evening. For a relatively short driving distance. Across the bridge. Where walking is not permitted.

Let’s just say it wasn’t happening. I was well and truly stranded.

I was about to give up and call my partner to rescue me with my car… when up ran a friend offering a lift. (more…)

Whisky Lady – March Madness

Welcome to Whisky Ladys 3rd instalment… with a decidedly desi bent to our sampling adventures.

Just as February had a Japanese theme, March came home to feature whiskies from India! I could just as easily have called this ‘India pride month!’

While our formal monthly tasting was cancelled, most of our group took part in two events covering both of India’s Single Malt distilleries – Amrut and Paul John! (more…)

Whisky Lady – February Fun

Welcome to Whisky Ladys 2nd instalment… and February was my turn to host!

This particular session required some advance planning with purchases in Tokyo during my July 2014 trip. To pair with exploring whiskies from this remarkable country, I prevailed on a friend’s catering company for a 4-course Japanese feast from Sushi Koi – simply delicious!

Our February whisky tasting session included: (more…)

Whisky Lady – January Journal

Some may recall I decided one of my vices passions deserved its own little home. Thus Whisky Lady was born.

I also promised to share whisky posts here only once a month…

My 1st monthly malt missive is a bit of a catch up so bear with me!
