Ambling along art in Jakarta

Part of my recent Jakarta staycation was a little ambling about… Which lead to my reaching the Ciputra Artrepreneur.

Now… honestly, tell me what you think about the following… (more…)

Saying “So long Jakarta!” with a stay-cation

Have you ever had a ‘staycation’? A vacation when you don’t really get ‘away’ but do escape from the drudgery of the daily work grind?

My part of the Jakarta project is winding up and this is my last trip to Indonesia. I was lucky enough to fit in a bit of a vacation before heading home to India.

Original plan was to head to an island and laze on a beach… however when there was a chance to catch up with an old friend and colleague in town from Hong Kong… decided to stick around Jakarta.

That’s when the ‘staycation’ fancy took hold. The tricks for a fab staycation (in my humble opinion) are: (more…)

‘Pop’ home for ‘pop up’ Assamese

I ‘popped’ home to Mumbai on the weekend and found myself at a ‘pop up’ venue for a home made lunch of various Assamese delicacies. Expect by now most are familiar with the concept – enjoy fab food outside of the traditional restaurant setting with other ‘foodies’.

In this case, our venue was a funky store Sanctum, our hosts The Secret Ingredient and our chef the beaming energetic Gitika. (more…)

“Let’s go out for dinner!” aka the Puncak un-plan…

If someone says to you “Let’s go out for dinner Saturday”… you can be forgiven for having visions of a civilized sit down dinner, a glass of wine, a little desultory conversation..

However, that’s vastly underestimating my friends.

What did we do?

Hop in the car and drive from Jakarta to Puncak… braving macet in the city and macet on the winding road up to Puncak pass. (more…)

Brand Battle 2 – Mac vs PC…

After a little wander down computer memory lane with Brand Battle 1 – Mac vs PC, what should be pretty clear is that my ‘Battling the white screen of death!!’ experience was only the tip of a technological iceberg…. Titantic style!?

Learning my lesson… (more…)

Brand Battle 1 – Mac vs PC…

Anyone remember the ‘taste challenges’ of Pepsi vs Coke from the 80s? The days of bad hair, caked on make-up and mostly pretty crappy pop music?

Personally I don’t drink either, favoured a gravity defying punk look and an eclectic mix of music that was ANYTHING but pop!

But as for the battle of the brands, my recent computer experienced has brought back a flood of memories! (more…)

Visa o visa woes!

Twas the night before my Tokyo flight… and all was decidedly NOT calm in our house… Cue partner muttering expletives, with the occasional shout of exasperation.

Why?

He had a film shoot in London…

Great, right? You bet! Independent production with a cross-continent story of an estranged father-son relationship… with every element to potentially do well in the film fest circuit.

Sounds fab! Until…. time to apply for a UK work visa…

Battling the white screen of death

I’m howling at the universe – I want to write gawdammit not wrestle with technology!!

Blog purgatory... Help!

Blog purgatory… Help!

Alas WordPress is determined to drag me kicking and screaming into technical areas that are beyond my ken!

This white screen of death is perilously close to being the death of this blog…

I would like to share my excitement about recent trips to Tokyo, Shanghai, Manila and Singapore… the wondrous world of opening companies… enjoying Lebaran in Jakarta, returning home to a monsoon Mumbai.

Instead all I get is a white screen….

So am going to share the pain this once, make a few more attempts when back in India over the next two weeks…. if unsuccessful will simply admit defeat and retire my wee blog!

Has anyone else battled the ‘white screen of death’ and emerged victorious?
