Zero to Hero Week 2: Trying new things (blog stuff)

As shared, I’m rather late to WordPress’s “Zero to hero: 30 Days to a Better Blog” so attempting to fast-track my way through select steps. This is a compressed version of the 2nd week… For the 1st week, check here.

Day 8: Make Your About Page Irresistible – Well… don’t know about irresistible, but I did make some changes… probably needs a good editing snip or two! Check it out and let me know what you think – About.

Day 9: Head Deeper Into the Blogosphere – Had fun with this one! I looked at my country stats to find blog topics about countries with only a few views. Belarus had alluring ladies looking for ahem marital bliss (and presumably economic stability) with complete strangers. And I admit, I had to look up where the Aland Islands is!

Day 10: Dress up your Blog – add Two Widgets – A non-blogger would have no clue about this! Suffice to stay, I already have lots of ‘doodad’s and added a new one – a featured post gallery plus still need to update the 2014 Weekly Posts & add Zero to Hero badge graphics.

Day Eleven: Leave Three Comments – The trick is to comment on a ‘new’ blog… call it virgin commenting territory rather than your familiar favourites. Here’s my recent commenting ‘hit list’:

  1. A post on the remarkable Sheetal Sathe and the story of her release from prison just before giving birth (on the Kabir Kala Manch blog)
  2. What’s Happening from a fellow Canadian now living in Thailand
  3. Commiserated on computer angst with A letter at a time

Day 12: From Comment to Post be inspired by the community. Conceptually this was easy – having watched last week the powerful “Jai Bhim Comrade”, I reblogged the original post with insights into the Sheetal Sathe story, linking to the blog post I found the most informative. However my execution was so clumsy that clearly I’m missing a trick or two with this whole re-blogging thing!

Day 13: Build a (Better) Blogroll – A better what?! Before this assignment, I had no clue what a “blogroll” is?! I’ve started one – labelled “Even more interesting stuff” tucked beneath my tag cloud, but will take my own sweet time adding more things I like. 🙂

Day 14: Blogger’s Choice! – Phew – finally! What’s my choice?? Er… do nothing…

Hope you enjoyed the 2nd instalment in the “Zero to hero: 30 Days to a Better Blog” journey. Let’s see if I make it through the next 2 weeks!?

  1. I like how you are approaching the zero to hero tasks. Mine has been a more quiet approach. I don’t think anyone knows I’ve been checking zero to hero everyday, and following most of the tasks making my blog and my blogging “better”, it has been quiet useful actually. Well now I’ve told you, so you know. 😉

I’ve been thinking about changing my appearance for months now 😉 Good on you for actually starting!

I wasn’t even aware of this; I was battling to keep up with all my reading and , ashamed to say, I deleted a pile of stuff. I say I haven’t got time to keep up with my blog and then I see you can do it with your busy life and so really I have no excuse. I may copy your example here.

  4. I’ve also recently had a hit from the Aland Islands and had to look it up 😉
I so want a hit from Greenland, I so do.
Anyway, sterling effort on the blog improvement front!

I like what you’ve done with About, and Even More Interesting Stuff.
Hero to Zero does lead you into interesting places, including discussions with people who don’t like H2Z. I was doubtful about prompts – I think I’ve said that to you before – and I found an interesting point of view on the Clouds Moving In blog. If only I knew how to add hyperlinks to a comment from my iPad…anyway, here’s the URL.

    • Aww… thanks for the compliments on the “About” page and I really do need to add lots more stuff to the “Even More Interesting Stuff”.

But gotta admit… been disappointed with Z2H though still at least considering the recommended steps. As for the Clouds Moving In blog – thanks for the link! Love it!

Now… if I could only have a slightly less crazy week before getting on a plane Sunday for an intense 2 week project. Work is a good thing but… miss having blog faffery time. 🙂
